Traffic moving slowly due to protests on N1 North

The newspaper was able to confirm that the N1 North is currently closed for traffic. This is due to the local community of Mavukha currently blocking the national road. According to residents living in the area the community is protesting in order to receive a tar road to their village.

A provincial police spokersperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo, have warned motorists to approach the area with caution as there is some of the community members who started throwing stones at passing vehicles. The road is also blocked by burning tyres.

Currently traffic is backed up in both directions for kilometres (near the petrol station at HK Patel) and moving slowly.

The police are on the scene, and will release more information shortly.
