Brian du Plooy, president of the Louis Trichardt Rotary Club, writes:

It takes real commitment, passion and lots of energy to take action and make a difference in your community.

Therefore 2017 was a particularly busy year for the Rotary Club in Louis Trichardt. Determined to continue with our efforts to work together towards a better world, we hit the ground running in the new year to uphold our 2018 motto of ‘Making a Difference.’

This means that some of our projects during these past months have slipped through the cracks unnoticed.

One such a project is the annual Rotary Youth Exchange programme aimed at building peace, one young person at a time. Students selected for this project learn a new language, discover another culture, and truly become global citizens. Exchanges for students 15 to 19 years old are sponsored by Rotary clubs in more than 100 countries.

During August 2017, the local Rotary Club hosted two exchange students, Carlotta Pasquali from Italy and Marion Lefebvre from France, as Grade 11 students at Louis Trichardt High School.

Their Louis Trichardt counterparts were Catrien Dekker, who visited France, and Anicka Nel, who got to see Italy.

We thank all who formed part of this programme and made it a success.
