7-year-old allegedly sexually assaulted

A security guard at Soutpansberg Primary School was arrested on Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl.

According to information available to the newspaper, another security guard allegedly discovered the accused sexually assaulting the young girl and reported the matter. Soon afterwards police arrested a 38-year-old man. The man, who hails from Kutama Village, appeared in the Louis Trichardt District Court on Tuesday. He was not asked to plead and his case was postponed until 28 February for further investigation. He will remain in police custody until then.

Soutpansberg Primary School was asked for an official statement on the incident on Wednesday, but refused to give a statement arguing that the issue first needs to be dealt with by die school’s governing body.
