Police operation clamps down on drugs in province

A provincial anti-drug police operation led to the arrest of several suspected drug dealers.

Locally this campaign led to the arrest of 15 suspects in the Makhado, Thohoyandou, Tzaneen, Mahwelereng, Lephalale, Polokwane, Burgersfort and Groblersdal police districts. According to the provincial police spokesperson, Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the suspects aged between 20 and 47 years old were arrested for dealing in drugs, planting dagga, possession of dagga and other drugs.

During the various arrests the police recovered 249 sachets of dagga, dagga plants and 2 150 sachets of nyaope.

In other parts of the province the operation also yielded results. In Modimolle, Mookgopong and Bela-Bela the police arrested seven suspects, aged between 35 and 46. Police recovered a total of 101 packets of CAT, three plastic bags containing crystal meth and seized one Mercedes-Benz that was allegedly used to transport these drugs.  

In the Mahwelereng policing area a 46-year-old woman was also arrested after police received information that she was on her way back from Johannesburg where she stocked up on her drug supplies. According to Ngoepe drugs with an estimated street value of R51 250 were seized from the woman.
