The Makhado Police on Tuesday, 19 November, uncovered a dagga plantation near Waterval. Cannabis worth thousands of rands were confiscated.
According to the local police spokesperson, Const Irene Radzilane, a 25-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the discovery. The suspect, believed to be from the North-West province, was living in a shack that was erected on top of a mountainous ridge, which overlooked the dagga plantation.
“During the intelligence driven operation that was led by the cluster commander of the Makhado SAPS, Brig Eddie van der Walt, 1 159 dagga plants were uprooted,” said Radzilane. The plants, weighing 70 kg was estimated to be worth around R250 000.
The suspect was expected to appear in the Waterval Magistrate Court later in the week on a charge of the illegal cultivation of dagga.
