Water shutdown after Albasini water plant is vandalised

Residents of Louis Trichardt and Tshikota must brace themselves for more water shortages after criminals vandalised the Albasini raw water plant on Wednesday evening, 1 December.

“Electrical cables, panel boards and other equipment were stolen at the Albasini raw water plant last night and it has resulted in the shutdown of the Albasini water plant. Therefore Louis Trichardt town and Tshikota will experience water shortages,” said Vhembe District Municipality spokesperson, Mr Matodzi Ralushai.

According to Ralushai, the municipality’s technical team are busy making arrangements for the re-installation of stolen infrastructure. “Normal water supply will resume immediately after the stolen electrical equipment are installed,” said Ralushai and apologized to the public for the inconvenience caused.

Ralushai said that the case was reported to the police.
