Eltivillas score convincing victory over LTT

Date: 06 October 2017 By: Anton van Zyl

The cricket team from Eltivillas scored a convincing victory against the team from Louis Trichardt on Sunday, beating them by 74 runs in a Vhembe T20 clash.

Eltivillas batted first and, with the score on 11/2, it seemed as if the log-leaders might be in for some troubles. Imran Bhathia (22) and Naeem Patel (75 not out from only 57 balls) stabilised the ship and played some attacking shots. Munaf Patel (10), Ikramuddin Patel (29) and Suhel Sheth (14) helped to take the score to 164/5 after 20 overs.

Chris-Jan Hendriks (2/24) was the only Louis Trichardt bowler who claimed more than one wicket. Jandré Hancke (1/21 in four) was very economical.

Louis Trichardt’s run chase started off very cautiously, with Leon Olwage (21) and Chris-Jan Hendriks (15) getting the scoreboard ticking. Wickets fell in quick succession, however, and the Eltivillas bowlers, especially Ikram Patel (4/13 in 3 overs), kept a tight rein. Leon Furstenburg (26) and Gerrie Oelofse (13) made some effort, but all was in vain. The last wicket fell in the 15th over, with the score on 90.

Apart from Ikram Patel, Suhel Sheth (2/17 in 4 overs) and Ikramuddin Patel (2/13 in 2,5 overs) also performed well.

On Sunday morning, two matches were scheduled in the Vhembe T20 league, namely between Giyani and Bochum and later between Univen XI and Bochum. The Giyani team were involved in an accident early the morning and uncertainty exists whether the match took place. The result of the Bochum vs Univen match was not available.
