The Zoutpansberger - one of the last to go

After 41 years, the Zoutpansberger newspaper is closing its doors, with its final edition on December 18th. While its demise marks the end of an era, its impact on the community it served will be remembered.

The decision to close the Zoutpansberger was made last week. For months, it seemed inevitable, but we tried to find a way out. The final edition is scheduled to appear on 18 December.

This will bring to an end a history of almost 41 years. The paper was started in January 1985 by Johann du Plessis, who arrived here with his caravan. One of his mottos was that the face of every resident in town should appear in the newspaper at least once a year.
