Flood warnings escalate as heavy rains continue

Heavy rainfall in north-eastern South Africa, driven by a persistent low-pressure system, is causing severe infrastructure damage and flooding. The South African Weather Service issued Orange Level 6 and 9 warnings, leading to road closures and disruptions, including in Kruger National Park.

Persistent heavy rains over the northern and eastern parts of the country are beginning to wreak havoc on infrastructure, with more than 180 mm of rain measured by residents of Louis Trichardt over the past 24-hour period.
