New Vhembe mayor elected amidst ANC power shifts

Chauke secured 38 votes and pledged to address critical issues such as water supply and infrastructure, calling for unity to build a prosperous Vhembe.

The political reshuffle at the Vhembe District Municipality has materialised with Cllr Miyelani Chauke officially elected as the new executive mayor, replacing Cllr Tsakani Fredah Nkondo.

Chauke was elected during a council sitting where nominees were put forward by the African National Congress (ANC) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). He secured 38 votes, while the EFF candidate received six votes.
