Torrential rains continue to batter Vhembe’s road infrastructure

Heavy rainfall has caused widespread flooding and infrastructure damage across Thulamela Local Municipality, affecting roads, bridges, and homes. Authorities are assessing the damage and urge residents to exercise extreme caution, especially avoiding flooded areas.

Several communities in the Thulamela Local Municipality have been affected by flooding following heavy rainfall across parts of the municipality, causing damage to infrastructure and disrupting movement in some areas.

The municipality said the persistent rains have resulted in washed-away roads, damaged bridges and flooding of homes in low-lying areas.

Among the affected areas is the R523 at Thathe, where a mudslide has been reported, posing a risk to motorists using the route. Read more on our website
