Four pupils from Mbilwi Secondary School participated in international events during the winter holidays this year. Three Grade 11 pupils, Tshifhiwa Mahwasane, Zwivhuya Nekhumbe and Mandisa Mulaudzi, visited Atlanta in the USA and attended a workshop organized by “Lead Gobal”.

“Lead Global” is an organization that enables youths of diverse backgrounds to convert their high potential into high achievement and responsible leadership. During the workshop at Morehouse College, Atlanta, these learners were exposed to different career tracks with other students from South Africa and the USA. At the leadership centre, they were also involved in activities like conflict management and team work.

During the last week of their stay, they were living with families from Atlanta and learnt a lot about American families and teenagers. Throughout this experience, they learnt the philosophy of an ethical leader which states that “what is yours is mine and we will share it”.

Dakalo Mudimeli , a Grade 12 pupil, participated in the International Science Expo competition held on Reunion island in the Indian Ocean. He said the experience he gained at the expo has opened up new horizons for him.

Mrs Banu Sankaran, the acting principal of Mbilwi, is very proud of the learners´ achievements. She encouraged all the learners at the school to participate in various mathematics- and science-related competitions in order to get some international exposure.

The learners were chosen based on their good performance in mathematics and physical science.
