Chris-Jan demolishes a brave Bochum XI

Date: 21 September 2017 By: Anton van Zyl

A blitzkrieg of 71 runs from only 38 balls by Chris-Jan Hendriks crushed all hope of Bochum to beat the Louis Trichardt XI in their Vhembe T20 match on Sunday. The home side scored a relatively easy nine-wicket victory.

Bochum batted first and scored 120 for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs. Letsoalo Tumisang was in good form and top-scored with 73 runs from 59 balls. His effort was, unfortunately, a solo one, as none of his team mates could match his skills. Only Aubrey Mashalane (11) could manage double figures.

Most of the damage was done by Jandré Hancke (2/16) and Chris-Jan Hendriks (2/13) who claimed the wickets of the first four batsmen. Gerhardus Fourie showed his pace and took 2/30 in his four overs.

Louis Trichardt’s opening pair, Leon Olwage (20) and Chris-Jan Hendriks (71) put up a 35-run partnership to get the scoreboard going. AJ Fourie (20) then joined Chris-Jan at the crease and the two of them took the score past the required total in the ninth over.

On Sunday morning, Bochum played against Eltivillas. Eltivillas scored a victory, but the scorecard was unfortunately not available. In another clash in the Vhembe T20 league, the team from Univen came up against Giyani. It could also not be established who had won this game.

The next round of matches in the league is scheduled to take place on 1 October.
