The flow of traffic on the N1 south came to a stand still on Thursday, 30 July.
A truck, carrying a load of unfolded cardboard boxes caught fire about 3km outside Louis Trichardt. The driver, Mr Wessel Pieterse, said that he heard a loud bang and then saw sparks at the back of the truck's trailer. He reported that he barely had enough time to save the cab, before the rest of the trailer went up in flames. His load was destined for a tomato farm near the Zimbabwe border. The N1 was opened for traffic nearly two hours after the incident.
