Following a dramatic shoot-out, the police in Makhado managed to arrest four suspects in Louis Trichardt early Monday morning.
The arrests came after a tip-off that an undisclosed number of armed suspects were staying in a house in Douthwait Street, less than a block away from Louis Trichardt Primary School.
Heavily armed members of the Makhado police surrounded the house and started to move in. The suspects, however, tried to flee the scene. This resulted in several shots' being fired between the police and the suspects.
Following the shoot-out and arrest, this normally quiet residential area was abuzz with police activity and bystanders wanting a closer look at the drama.
Local police spokesperson Const Irene Radzilane confirmed the arrest of the four suspects, adding that the police managed to recover two handguns and some 9mm ammunition upon searching the dilapidated house where the suspects were staying.
